(Djibouti) Towing at sea

Rescue operation at sea for the Spanish frigate Santa Maria of the EU anti-piracy operation (EUNAVFOR Atalanta), following a distress call, about 200 nautical miles away. The AB-212 ship's helicopter was requisitioned to locate the ship and deliver food and water to it. The tug had been adrift, having had its engines broken down for about ten days. Only one crewman on board, without water or food. The frigate, which had arrived in the area in the meantime, sent a boarding party, with a mechanic, to try to repair the engines. Verdict: not possible. The sailors then engaged in a delicate operation: towing the boat to land. A journey of 130 nautical miles completed without incident to the port of Bossasso in Somalia, where the tugboat was handed over to the local coast guard. Details here

(Kalesija) Bosnia and Herzegovina. New strategy demining

The "Land Release" demining technique, faster than the previous ones, will make it possible to complete the demining of the country more quickly. Nearly a thousand km² remain to be neutralized. This was explained by experts from the EU stabilization operation (EUFOR Althea), during a visit by officials in mid-July to a site 120 km north of Sarajevo.
