First surveillance missions for the Latouche Tréville

(B2) The French anti-submarine frigate, Latouche Tréville (D-646), engaged in the European operation to control the arms (and oil) embargo on Libya, has just carried out its first two visits on board ships, reports the HQ of the EUNAVFOR Med Irini operation in Rome.

Lee MV Amineh M, a freighter flying the flag of the Cook Islands departing from NovoIstanbul to Misrata, as well as the MV Zeko Y, a vessel flying the Tanzanian flag plying between Turkey and Tripoli, received a visit from French sailors.

The friendly boarding technique is one of the basic tasks of maritime surveillance operations. It makes it possible to obtain (valuable) information on maritime traffic, but also to make oneself known, to mark the presence, and to dissuade if necessary. It's a bit like the police on the side of a road. This dissuades (a little).
