Indian Navy visits Seychelles

Indian Vice Admiral Satish Soni was in Seychelles last week to meet Vice President Danny Faure, Foreign Minister Jean-Paul Adam and Chief of Armed Forces General Leopold Payet. On the menu for discussion: ways to strengthen cooperation between the island in the Indian Ocean and one of the main powers in the region in the field of maritime security, anti-piracy measures and training. The Seychelles coastguards were partly trained by the Indian navy, precisely by the "South" command, for which the vice-admiral is responsible, explains the daily Nation. Maltese VPDs back home

The group of Maltese soldiers who were serving off Somalia in Operation EUNavfor Atalanta have returned home. The team composed of 3 officers and 19 other soldiers was embarked on the Dutch ship HNLMS Johan deWitt. Trained specifically, he was used as a VPD - ship protection team on several merchant ships.

A Danish patrol aircraft, type "Challenger", arrived in Seychelles at the end of September to participate in the surveillance of the maritime area as part of the NATO anti-piracy operation "Ocean Shield". The crew is scheduled to remain on call for two months.

Dutch Protection Detachment

A Ship Protection Detachment (VPD), made up of Dutch marines, provided security on board the Dutch ship MV Treasure of the company Dockwise.

Report of the International Maritime Organization

The findings of the Organization's first six-monthly report show a movement of pirates from Somalia to Nigeria. The assessment of the first 6 months of 2013 estimates at 138 "incidents" of piracy in the world. This supposes an improvement of 22% in relation to 177 for the same period of 2012.
