(BRUSSELS2) Eleven pirates were sentenced by the Seychelles Supreme Court for piracy on Wednesday (October 2) to sentences of between 18 months and 16 years in prison. They were arrested by a Dutch ship, the HNLMS Van Amstel, on May 11, 2012, as part of the European anti-piracy operation Eunavfor Atalanta; the Dutch Lynx helicopter had spotted the dhow pulling 2 skiffs 400 miles from the Somali coast a few days after the attack on a merchant ship, the MV Super Lady. In this Iranian dhow, the 11 pirates were holding the 17 fishermen hostage.
