Opening of accession negotiations with Serbia, with deadline

(BRUSSELS2) The "27" must approve this Friday (28 June) the opening of negotiations for a stabilization agreement for an association agreement with Kosovo as well as allowing the opening of accession negotiations for Serbia. But for the latter country, this opening is not immediately applicable and conditions are laid down. The first intergovernmental conference should thus be held "at the latest" in January 2014. But before that, the negotiation framework will have to be adopted by the Council of Ministers - and confirmed by the European Council - at the December session. The objective is thus to verify that all the commitments made by Belgrade in terms of the agreement with Pristina are respected.
