John McColl, appointed head of EUFOR Althea

(B2 - archives) John McColl, the deputy commander of NATO forces in Europe (Dsaceur), will also command the EU mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina from October 22, 2007, replacing General Sir John Reith.

Bosnia-Herzegovina is familiar ground for this British general since he served there in 1994 with the UN operation "Grapple 4" and in 1995 then 1996 under IFOR.

He also served in Germany, Cyprus, Norway and Northern Ireland and commanded the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan from January 10 to June 20, 2002.
