Slovaks in the Mediterranean

(B2) Slovakia doesn't have a navy... but it does have soldiers. According to this good old principle (1), a dozen Slovak military policemen are being trained and trained by their German counterparts from the Seebattalion to incorporate the EUNAVFOR MED operation Sophie.

The training started on January 30 must end at the end of March, with the key, tactical training, transport by motor boat or helicopter, boarding on small or large ships, checking of goods and documents, until target shooting at sea.

The Slovak soldiers will then be embarked on a German ship, as part of the European operation in the Mediterranean. They could thus participate in controlling the arms embargo or the fight against traffickers.

(NGV)

(1) A principle somewhat forgotten, it seems, by a Slovak official who responded at the start of the Slovak presidency of the EU (in the summer of 2016) to justify his country's non-engagement in the operation Sophia : " As you know, Slovakia has no sea... ". Pleasant irony... belied by the facts.
