EUTM Mali carries out its first consultancy and training mission in Gao

(B2) For the first time since its launch, a joint advisory and training team (CMATT) from EUTM Mali organized a session in Gao. The European mission is thus continuing its process of decentralization with its mobile training teams. After Segou and Kati, in June 2016, the city of Gao was the next target. Its organization has been delayed by the difficult security situation in the region, so far. The graduation ceremony was held on March 11.

Strengthen the military region

The aim of the Gao CMATT was to improve the military capabilities of the 1st military region. For three weeks, French and Spanish officers provided advice and assistance to the staff of the first Military Region.

Medical training and IED

An important part of its activities was related to the medical aspects. On the one hand through training in combat first aid provided for the benefit of the 131 Malian soldiers who participated, but also thanks to the presence of an EUTM adviser who provided assistance in the management of the hospital. campaign of Gao. The other major component focused on the fight against mines and improvised explosive devices (IED) with courses given by British, Irish and Belgian specialists.
