The Belgian command of the NATO anti-mine force returns to port

(B2) Minehunter M923 Narcis and the command and logistic support ship A960 Godetia are due to reach their home port of Zeebrugge this Wednesday (December 12). For four months, the two vessels took part in NATO's permanent squadron in charge of the fight against mines (SNMCMG1). Placed under the command of the Belgian corvette captain Yvo Jaenen, since the beginning of August, the squadron has thus participated in the exercises Noco Danex 2012 et Joint Warrior as well as operations Beneficial Cooperation 2012 et Historical Ordinance Disposal France. Alongside Estonian, German, Dutch and Norwegian ships, the Belgians "discovered and disarmed no less than forty mines and aerial bombs“, indicates the Belgian Ministry of Defense. Commander Piotr Sikora of the Polish Navy is expected to take over command of the mine countermeasures squadron in January when it officially hands over to the Polish port of Gdynia.
