The A400M completes its tests. There remains the flight certificate… A whole program

(BRUSSELS2) The Airbus A400M has completed its final phase of flight testing. Everything is now in the hands of the competent civil (in particular the European aviation safety agency EASA) and military (the committee designated by OCCAR) authorities to examine the data from the “Operation and Reliability” program.

300 hours of testing for the MSN6

The MSN6/Grizzly 5, the first aircraft dedicated to production, carried out single-handedly and “with success" the 300 hours of testing of the program, indicates the manufacturer. It only took 26 days, through 2 tours in the air and 15 hours of flight per day on 10 different airfields (to which are added 6 days of maintenance) to appreciate the behavior of the aircraft under normal operating conditions, in routine and exceptional circumstances. Fernando Alonso, director of flight testing and integration at Airbus Military – and rather comical namesake and, one hopes, harbinger, of the double F1 world champion – said he was particularly satisfied with the reliability of the aircraft . “The crew was really impressed with the performance of the onboard systems and engines, and we are confident that we have a solid foundation to complete the certification process in the coming months.”

One last “formality” before delivery

Civil and military organizations should award the civil type certificate and the first IOC (Initial Operating Capability) military standard during the first quarter of 2013. Airbus will then be able to deliver its first A400M to the French army, the MSN7, in the second quarter and a total of four aircraft should thus be delivered during 2013, according to the planned schedule.
