14 member states, including France, ordered to respect the “racial equality” directive

(B2) The Commission formally invited, on 27 June, fourteen Member States to fully transpose European regulations prohibiting any discrimination based on racial or ethnic origin (Directive 2000/43/EC). The countries involved – Spain, Sweden, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Ireland, UK, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia and Slovakia – have two months to respond, failing which the Commission can refer the matter to the European Court of Justice. Adopted in 2000, the Racial Equality Directive had to be transposed into national law in 2003 at the latest.
