Romanian Mig 21 crashes during air show

(B2) A Mig21 plane crashed to the ground on Saturday (July 7) around 13:30 p.m. during an air show organized for an open day at the 86th Air Base on the Borcea military airfield. The pilot did not survive.

An experienced pilot

Lieutenant Commander Florin Rotaru, 36, was chief of staff at the 861st Combat Air Group at the 86th Air Base. He had more than 400 flight hours, including about 250 on the MiG-21, says the communicated of the ministry.

Ongoing investigation

A technical commission of inquiry was appointed to investigate the circumstances of the disaster. The military prosecutor's office was seized. And the order to suspend all flights with this type of aircraft has been given until the investigation is completed. Another Mig 21 crashed last year, in June 2017, while on approach to the airport of Mihail Kogălniceanu, during an exercise Thracian Eagle with the Bulgarian Air Force.
