The visit of EUCAP Sahel Mali experts to Kayes on 9 and 10 December gave rise to meetings at the political, security and societal level. They allowed "to get an idea of the reality on the ground, especially in this border region". The European experts who advise the Police, the Gendarmerie and the National Guard were invited to discuss with the regional heads of the three security forces and to visit police stations, companies and other units, such as the Diboli border post on the Senegalese border. He is “important » for a capacity building mission for the security forces of “understand the working conditions of the people it trains in order to properly plan its support”, we insist on the European side.

Specific training for regional security forces

During this first year of activities, the EUCAP Sahel Mali mission concentrated its training and advisory staff in Bamako. But about half of EUCAP trainees come from other regions and travel to participate in training. “We met department heads who were very committed to their mission and determined to do well. They told us about their working conditions, their lack of resources and training in certain areas. This allows us to jointly develop training activities and projects for their benefit,” emphasizes Head of Mission Albrecht Conze.
