Two Canadairs for Greece

(BRUSSELS2) Two Canadairs from the Civil Security Air Base in Marignane (near Marseille), as well as a Beechcraft reconnaissance aircraft, will take off tomorrow for Greece. They arrive as reinforcements in the face of the forest fires that are ravaging the country. Athens has, in fact, decreed the mobilization of all the civil security forces of the country and called for help from its European counterparts (via the European civil protection mechanism).

« This is a major effort, while, on French territory, the forest fire season already mobilizes the civil security forces ” underlined the Minister of the Interior, Bernard Cazeneuve, in a press release.

Greece has been facing a multitude of fires since this morning, heightened by high temperatures and very violent winds, which are hitting in particular the regions of Laconia (southern Peloponnese), the center of the country, Argolis, and up to on the outskirts of Athens, leading to the evacuation of certain localities.
