Sahel: 142 million in European humanitarian aid for 2014

(BRUSSELS2) The European Commission has announced the release, for 2014, of 142 million euros in humanitarian aid for the African region of the Sahel. 57 million euros will be devoted to emergency aid for the victims of the food and nutritional crisis affecting the entire Sahel. Aid for the victims of the Malian crisis will amount to 28 million euros. An additional €18 million of EU development funding will be dedicated to relief and rehabilitation assistance to build resilience in northern Mali. The Commission also plans to send 7,5 million euros to fight the food crisis in Nigeria, and 29,5 million euros will go to Chad, which is going through a complex crisis and is facing an influx of refugees. Finally, 2 million euros will go to Northern Cameroon.
