The EU wants to increase its support for the Lebanese Armed Forces
(BRUSSELS2) The "28" foreign ministers announced today (16 December) their intention "to explore possibilities for increased support for the Lebanese Armed Forces » and to continue to commit to « support the institutions of Lebanon and the security forces”.
This decision, prepared by the European Diplomatic Service (EEAS) from an "options paper", follows a request from the Lebanese government, with which discussions are underway to assess the needs. The 28 particularly welcome “ efforts by Lebanese security forces, including the Lebanese Armed Forces, to protect Lebanon's borders and ensure the safety of all people living on Lebanese territory ».

Italian commitment
Visiting Beirut, Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta announced Italy's commitment to " strengthen its support for the army, especially in terms of training and expertise » but also for « la reorganization of the Lebanese Armed Forces ". An international conference to support the army should be organized soon in Rome, in coordination with the United Nations and Lebanon, following the recommendations issued by the international support group in Lebanon.
