Kosovo. Reopened trial for 3 war criminals

(BRUSSELS 2) Meeting on appeal, a mixed jury of Kosovar judges and EULEX (the European "Rule of Law" mission of the European Union) ordered Thursday (10 October) the opening of a new trial against the against Slobodan Martinovic, Srecko Martinovic and Svetlana Stojanovic, accused of war crimes against the civilian population in 1999. Indicted for having kidnapped and tortured eight people in an unofficial detention center near Novoberde/Novo Brdo and Gjilan/Gnjilane, these three Serbian Kosovars, originally from Novo Brdo, were arrested in September 2009 by the Eulex police, then acquitted in July 2011 by the Pristina Court, for lack of sufficient evidence. In charge of the investigation, the prosecutor of the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office (SPRK) had appealed the decision.
