(B2) The first of six Patriot missile batteries to be deployed in Turkey was declared operational and placed under NATO command and control on Saturday (January 26). This is the Dutch battery which should protect the city of Adana.

The Dutch have deployed PAC2 batteries and PAC3 (more advanced) on the Turkish air base of Incirnik, near Adana. THE " two types of weapons are a formidable defense against ballistic missiles like Scud weapons ” we say on the Dutch side.

The other five batteries should be in place and operational in the coming days, to “protect the Turkish cities of Kahramanmaras and Gaziantep. " This deployment is defensive only. It will in no way support a no-fly zone or any offensive operation. » we say to NATO. It is the Germans who will be deployed near Kahramanmaras and the Americans near Gaziantep.

Following Turkey's request, the NATO Foreign Ministers decided on December 4 to help Turkey provide air defense and " contribute to the de-escalation of the crisis along the Alliance border».
