The end of the monsoon = new pirate season
Although the decline in piracy has been notable in recent months, the end of the monsoon season calls for caution, as evidenced by the latest incidents, in particular the attack suffered by the Basque tuna boat Izurdia on Wednesday off Mogadishu and the approaches the day before (October 9) from a merchant vessel further north off the coast of Oman. Maritime anti-piracy forces have issued a warning in high-risk areas - Southern Red Sea (SRS), Gulf of Aden (GOA) and Bab-El-Manded Strait (BAB) -. Sailors are requested to redouble their vigilance and take all the on-board security measures, including following “best practices” (BMP)”.
