6 pirate suspects apprehended in the Gulf of Aden

(B2) Six pirates were intercepted by Dutch marines from the Johan de Witt (part of the EU anti-piracy operation "EUNAVFOR Atalanta") in the Gulf of Aden on Friday. They had been spotted in the morning by a German P3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft aboard a boat considered suspicious with a ladder on the deck.

As the Marines approached, the six suspects had thrown ladder and weapons overboard. And warning shots were needed to stop them. After interrogation and medical examination, on board the Johan de Witt, the six Somalis were released and brought back to shore.

The Johan de Witt also has a Maltese on-board protection team on board (Read also: Malta will participate in Operation Atalanta and Eutm Somalia).
