The trial of nine pirates underway in Rotterdam

(B2) Accused of attempted murder of Dutch soldiers, the trial of nine piracy suspects began in Rotterdam (Netherlands) on Tuesday (4 September). They had been arrested in early April 2011 by the Dutch frigate Hr. Ms. Tromp in concerted action with another NATO frigate, the Danish Esbern Snare, which had allowed the release of an Iranian fishing boat Hormuz, taken hostage by the pirates (to serve as a mother ship). The exchanges of fire had been fed. Two pirates had been killed and three wounded during the assault. Seven of the other arrested suspects have been released. The judgment is expected the week of October 8. This is the third time that the Dutch have repatriated pirates from the Indian Ocean to try them on the continent.
