North Africa Libya

NATO goes online on Libya. Logo and organization chart of “Unified protector”

(BRUSSELS2) The "Unified Protector" operation is giving a facelift and a boost to the good old lady that is the Atlantic Alliance and which is celebrating its 62nd birthday in a few days (the 1949 treaty was signed on 4 April ). To follow all the news on Libya, she opened a Web site which includes the main elements. And a twitter feed. As for the Joint Command in Naples (JFC), which is piloting the entire operation, we find it here.

US Domination of Commands

To understand at a glance, the chain of command, we will find a fairly clear diagram which clearly shows the North American domination of the operation: the French and British initiators of the operation have no position. Top, for general oversight of military affairs: US Admiral Jim Stravridis at SHAPE; below, Canadian General Charles Bouchard as Operation Commander; another American general Ralph Jodice II for the air component and an Italian vice-admiral, Rinaldo Veri for the maritime component. Everything is under control... indeed.
