Psychologists deployed in German missions abroad

The Bundeswehr devoted €648 to research on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among soldiers deployed on mission in 000, we learn. Projects carried out with several universities and in which the Department of Psychiatry of the Berlin Military Hospital and the Treatment Center for Psychosocial Trauma are involved.

Psychologists are also deployed in certain missions. This is the case in Afghanistan, where three psychologists are currently employed in the facilities at Mazar-e-Sharif and Kunduz, for the 4575 soldiers of the ISAF contingent. In Kosovo, a psychologist from Prizren is with the 1330 Bundeswehr soldiers deployed in KFOR.

The psychological follow-up of the German contingent of EUFOR (Althea) in Bosnia-Herzegovina is provided by a military psychologist who travels from Germany. In other missions, such as naval support to UNIFIL off the coast of Lebanon, the Atalanta anti-piracy mission in the Indian Ocean and Operation Active Endeavor in the Mediterranean, the psychologist's presence is temporary.

  • no but come on

Surprising that the German soldiers need psychological support since they do not participate in much on the spot. What will the others say, those who really expose themselves!

  • no but come on

Erratum… My previous comment refers to the “inactivity” of the Bundeswehr and its special forces in Afghanistan essentially.
