European condemnation of Israeli colonization in the Security Council

The United States had to use its veto in the Security Council to counter a resolution aimed at condemning illegal settlements in the territories occupied by Israel, a resolution voted by 14 of the 15 members of the Council. This is the first time that the Obama administration has used its veto. During this session, the British representative also spoke on behalf of France and Germany. He condemned colonization in very harsh terms. A declaration which takes up the fundamentals of the European declarations but adds a deadline: September.

« These constructions are illegal and contrary to international law. They constitute an obstacle to peace and undermine the two-state solution " did he declare. Before declaring himself in favor of an independent Palestinian state, living side by side, in peace with Israel. "Israel's security is not contradictory with Palestinian rights to independence ". " Our goal is to finalize an agreement and be able to welcome Palestine as a full member by September ».
