A French “gas tanker” under the target of pirates off the coast of Tanzania

The Maido, a French liquefied gas carrier, narrowly escaped a pirate attack off the coast of Tanzania, announced the HQ of the European anti-piracy operation on Tuesday afternoon, October 26. The pirates managed to board while the ship was about 100 miles southeast of Dar es Salaam. The 14 sailors had taken refuge in a safe place inside the boat, according to the principle of the "citadel" and had taken measures to make the boat ungovernable. Shortly afterwards, in the evening, realizing their inability to hijack the ship, "the pirates abandoned it", says a military source. The Maido is managed by the Marima group.
