(BRUSSELS2) The ten pirates arrested in flagrante delicto on April 5 by the Dutch frigate Hr Ms Tromp (F-803) - member of the European anti-piracy force EUNAVFOR Atalanta - will be transferred to Germany.

They had been arrested after a lightning action to regain control of the merchant ship on MV Taipan, flying the German flag (read: The Marines of Tromp take action). They will transit via Djibouti and the Netherlands, where they will be accompanied by men from the Dutch Royal Marechaussee, said the Dutch Minister of Defense. The Hamburg court, competent for maritime cases, issued a European arrest warrant sent to the Amsterdam public prosecutor.

This is the first time that pirates will be tried in Germany; until now Berlin refused to accept this hypothesis, preferring to entrust the suspects to Kenya... or release them. In this case, there was really no other alternative.
