EU aid to Haiti exceeds €1/2 billion

(B2) The Commission has decided to pay an additional €90 million for Haiti. This is to meet urgent needs, as the rainy season approaches: shelter, food, health, water and hygiene. " Giving shelter to the population is a key priority » confirmed, yesterday, Kristalina Georgieva, European Commissioner responsible for humanitarian aid. This funding - from the emergency fund of the European budget - still needs to be approved by the legislative power (European Parliament / Council of the EU).

600 million euros in total. According to the Commission's accounts, the European financial response amounts to 609 million euros (EU budget and national budget), including 309 million euros in humanitarian aid (120 million from the EU budget, 189 million from the Member States) . 300 million euros are earmarked for reconstruction and rehabilitation.
