Earthquake in Haiti: the toll is getting heavier on the European and UN side (upd. 2)

(BRUSSELS2)
European side
,
according to a report drawn up by SITCEN (EU Intelligence Centre) and the Consular Unit of the European Union, there are currently 35 confirmed dead and 9 injured. For 1011 Europeans, we have no news (*). 829 Europeans have been evacuated. NB: of which approximately 500 by the French forces. The Belgians, the Greeks, like the Spaniards who sent planes loaded with aid made these planes available to Europeans wishing to leave (**).

Haitian side, the balance sheet is without comparison: +/-80.000 bodies were found, the number of dead is estimated at +/-200.000, the number of injured at +/-250.000, and the homeless at 2 million (out of a population of 9 million!). The various rescue teams present removed the rubble... 121 people alive.

(update) As for the UN, the toll is now more precise: 61 dead and 180 missing.

(*) This is an estimated maximum, for a hundred of them, according to my information the disappearance is worrying. Among these is the number of the EC delegation in Haiti whose body we are trying to locate.

(**) An Airbus A310 of the Belgian Defense thus brought back in the night from Wednesday to Thursday 32 people including 14 Haitians, 10 Germans, 2 Luxembourgers, 1 English and 1 Dane.
