The UN is preparing its engagement in Chad...

(BRUSSELS2) Lieutenant General Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor, military adviser to the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations was in Chad on Wednesday to discuss the possible deployment of a UN force which should relay the European force EUFOR in March 2009. During his three-day visit, General Obiakor was to discuss this issue with the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Chad, as well as with the Ministers of External Relations and Defense.

He is also due to travel to Abéché and Farchana, in eastern Chad, to meet with the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) deployed in this region and EUFOR installations. A Nigerian, he began his career in 1973. Served as an artillery brigade commander in Liberia in 1996 and 1997 as part of ECOMOG - the West African States Monitoring Group), then as head of the Unmil mission in Liberia. He has been in this position at the UN since January 1, 2006.
