Forest fires in Bulgaria: the civil security mechanism activated


Two Canadair CL-415 water bombers from the 43rd Group of the Spanish Air Force flew to Bulgaria on the evening of September 9 to help put out serious fires threatening Rila National Park in the south of the country. This mailing was made in response to a request made by the European Union Mechanism of Civil Protection (MIC). France had already sent two Canadai planes on September 8r.  Fighting fires is difficult. The fires broke out at an altitude of 1800 m to ignite an area of ​​130-140 hectares, 60% of which was forest. Nearly 250 firefighters were
mobilized.
