Strengthen air bridges. An idea in the air in terms of European defense

(B2) On April 10, the European Parliament discussed European security and defense policy, on the basis of a report (by General) Philippe Morillon (EPP).

« The European Union must strengthen its military capabilities if it intends to become a credible player on the world stage” indicated the parliamentarians when voting for this report. The European Parliament also considers that from 2004 the EU should have a force of 5.000 men, ready to intervene at any time in humanitarian and rescue operations, then capable of carrying out autonomous operations at account for the year 2009.

Invest massively in three directions

During the debate, European Commissioner Chris Patten, in charge of external relations, said that there was a need to invest more heavily in the capacity of airlifts, special forces and communication equipment on the ground.
