Rescue in extremis off the coast of Libya

and overturns
The wooden ship, after rocking dangerously. Migrants only swim to escape death

(B2) The anti-missile ship Bergamini (P-490) and the high seas patrol boat Bettica (P-492), who participate in the operation Safe Sea, came, at the last minute, on Wednesday (May 25), to the rescue of a (wooden) boat loaded with migrants which had overturned off the Libyan coast.

562 people were saved and 5 bodies recovered according to the Italian Navy.

NB: This shipwreck proves that wooden ships continue to be used, despite the destruction of previous ships used by smugglers. It also contradicts certain assertions (fairly common in NGOs) emphasizing that wooden ships are safer than “small” inflatable boats. Shipwrecks occur as much in wooden ships as in frail inflatable boats (or even more).
