The 12 pirates arrested by Surcouf delivered to Mauritius?

(BRUXELLES2) This is the hypothesis currently envisaged by the HQ of Eunavfor Atalanta: to have the 12 pirates arrested by Surcouf at the beginning of the month in Mauritius judged. THE High Powered Committee met this week as reported by the Mauritius Express. What would be a first transfer after the signing of the agreement with the island.

This is also one of the reasons why it was not formally the American frigate that "stopped" the pirates, even if it stopped them, but the French frigate. This allows you to benefit from European transfer agreements without too much complication. Until now, the arrest of suspects could only lead to three solutions: 1) release, 2) trial in a flag country, 3) transfer to the Seychelles (Kenya no longer accepting transfers). Mauritius thus offers a new possible "outlet".

But, for the moment, nothing has been decided, "the suspects are still on board the Surcouf" as EUnavfor Atalanta HQ told B2 an officer. " And we are looking for a solution. Our goal is always to be able to bring hackers to justice ».

NB: Operation EUNAVFOR Atalanta currently has 4 frigates: Mendez-Nunez (Spain which is the F-104 flagship), Karlsruhe (Germany, F-212), Louise-Marie (Belgium, F-931), the Surcouf (France F-711).
