Maltese-flagged vessel captured in Gulf of Aden

(BRUSSELS2) A Greek ship flying the Maltese flag, the MV Olib G, was captured by pirates on September 8 in the eastern part of the Gulf of Aden, announced the EU anti-piracy headquarters. The multinational forces had been alerted by another merchant vessel of the approach of a suspicious skiff on the Mv Olib G which was then sailing in the international transit corridor (IRTC). When the latter did not respond, a helicopter from the American ship USS Princeton – part of CTF 151 – was sent to the site. During the flight, the American military spotted two pirates on board the merchant ship. This has a crew of 18 people (15 Georgians and 3 Turks).
