Kosovo: a group from Presevo condemned

(BRUSSELS) Ten people were sentenced, at first instance, for terrorism and organization or participation in a terrorist group, to sentences ranging from 2 years and 2 months to 9 years in prison, by a mixed jury of European judges (from the EULEX Mission) and Kosovars.

They had formed a highly organized terrorist group responsible for the armed robbery of a Serbian checkpoint near Bujanovac, in Dobrosin, on October 7, 2012. Their action was aimed at provoking conflicts in the Presevo valley, in the border between Serbia and Kosovo, in order to force the international community to intervene.

Among the heaviest sentences are those of Valon Jashari (9 years in prison + fine of 1000 Euros), Skender Jashari (8 years in prison) and Enver Musolli Gazmend Shir (6 years and 6 months in prison). A call is always possible, we specify on the side of the EULEX mission.

The checkpoint in the village of Dobrosin was attacked almost three times during 2012, in May, June and October. This village is known to be the place of creation of the Liberation Army of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, an army of Albanian separatists active in the region from 1999 to 2001. It is a very sensitive place.
