Alexander Alvaro seriously injured in a road accident (upd)

(BRUSSELS2) The Vice-President of the European Parliament, the German Alexander Alvaro was seriously injured Friday evening (22 evening) in a, banal, road accident on the A1, in Germany, just after the exit of Bursheid, as he headed for Cologne and Brussels. The driver of the vehicle in front of him, an Opel with three young people inside, lost control. (Update) According to the latest elements of the investigation, reported by the BILD on March 3, the young driver actually wanted to avoid another car that swerved while passing him. He then hit the guardrail.

Violent crash

Behind, the Audi A8 of the MEP, which arrives at high speed, could not avoid. The crash was very violent, according to the daily's account BILD. The photo of the Audi taken after the accident testifies to this. The two vehicles after the accident are several hundred meters apart. The engine block came off. And it took 45 minutes for the rescuers who arrived on the scene to extricate the MEP from his vehicle. In the other vehicle, the toll is even more dramatic: the 21-year-old driver was ejected and killed instantly, the other two, aged 15 and 16, were seriously injured. Rising star of the FDP

Of Portuguese origin, Alexander is a member of the FDP and one of the "rising stars" of the liberal party. He is the author in particular of a report on the transmission of telephone data for the purposes of the fight against terrorism; a subject (terrorism, data protection, etc.) that was close to his heart. He campaigned for the transfer of parliament to Brussels, advocating a single seat for the institution.
