Near South Ossetia, the hotline is heating up

(BRUSSELS2) A new incident along the "administrative border" with South Ossetia alerted EUMM European observers on Sunday (December 2) B2 has just learned. A driver of a minivan was shot near the villages of Abano, Koda and Tsnelisi. Apparently without a victim. Patrols were sent along the border line. And the mission contacted all parties using the "road" phone, the Incident Response and Prevention Mechanism (IPRM) hotline to prevent any misunderstandings.

« After intense exchanges of information by this hotline, a meeting was organized between Georgian and South Ossetian security officials to discuss the incident. we specify at the HQ of the mission. " We appreciate that each of the parties involved used this hotline to defuse the situation and clarify the circumstances of this incident.”.

However EUMM also calls on each of the parties " maintain a constructive approach and show restraint to avoid an escalation of tension ". The subject should be discussed at the next meeting of the IPRM in Ergneti which is to be held this month.
