Protecting VIPs, Palestinian officers on an “internship” in Paris
(BRUSSELS2) Three senior Palestinian officers from the Police Guards and Protection Unit (PGUs) have just returned from a week-long study trip to France. Trip organized by the EU Police Mission for the Palestinian Territories (EUPOL COPPS).
A week to tour the best French protection units
They came to learn alongside the various French police and gendarmerie services. Rather prestigious services such as the service of the French Presidential Protection Team (DPI), the Service for the Protection of High Personalities (SPHP), the Security Protection Service (CRS) as well as the security service of the Ministry of interior (SSMI).
As you will have understood, this visit aims to share French knowledge on the protection of VIPs (personalities) and institutions with members of the Palestinian Authority. On the menu: meeting with French field officers, discussion of standard operating procedures, command structures, crisis management practices and video surveillance methods (CCTV). The three men also went to the Paris operations center and to one of the CRS barracks. The officers are now back in Ramallah, in the West Bank, where they will certainly have many opportunities to put their education to the test, in particular to train their personnel.
