[Portrait] New director of armaments in Spain

(BRUSSELS2) A new director of armaments and equipment has been appointed to the Spanish Ministry of Defense. This is Major General Juan Manuel García Montaño.

Born in Los Santos de Maimona (Badajoz), he graduated from the cavalry school in 1976. He then served in the 'Alcántara' cavalry regiment of Melila and the 'Villaviciosa' cavalry regiment of Retamares (Madrid), in The General Staff School, the planning division of the Army General Staff and the Operations Division of the EUROFOR General Staff in Florence (Italy). He participates in missions in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo.

Promoted to colonel, he became head of the Department of Peacekeeping Mission Operations at the Army War College and then led the España Regiment No. 11 in Zaragoza.
After his promotion to the rank of brigadier general in February 2008, he was appointed chief of staff of the army's land forces. Rising to the rank of major general in September 2010, in 2011 he became Deputy Director General of Planning and Programs at the DG of Armament and Material, a position he held until now. He speaks English, French and Italian.
