Trainee in an EU delegation, you're tempted
(BRUSSELS2) European Diplomacy is recruiting trainees. The European Commission's “Young Experts in Delegations” program continues at the EEAS under the name of Young Professionals in Delegation (JPD) and leads to a new series of internship offers for 2013. Objective of the program: “ gain first-hand experience” on the work of EU delegations and a “deeper understanding of their role in the implementation of EU policies in the field of external relations”.
54 trainees will be recruited, or even a little more. Each member country thus benefits from two positions (financed by the EU) that it can offer to its nationals. But it can decide to finance some additional positions. In France, this quota amounts to five positions, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry funding three additional positions. The duration of the internship is 9 months (renewable once). Aspiring diplomats have until September 19, at noon sharp, to submit their applications on the Quai d'Orsay website. The selection will last several months, before the signing of the internship agreements (scheduled for December), with the internship starting in February or March 2013.
Conditions
You must have a University Master's degree in a relevant field: diplomacy, but also economic issues and trade policy, development aid, communication and information, justice, or even the press. Candidates must be fluent in French and English (any other linguistic knowledge is a "plus"). You should also show great interest and great motivation " for the mission entrusted to the delegations, " share the values and principles of the Union " and be " determined to defend these principles and the place of the Union in the world ". Note that if some professional experience is an asset, you should not have too much; a maximum of 4 years of relevant experience has thus been set, including a maximum of one year within one of the European bodies (EEAS, European Commission, etc.).
Applicants must " have the nationality of one of the EU Member States and enjoy all their civic rights “. They " must have fulfilled all their military service obligations in accordance with applicable law or provide guarantees that they will not be called up during their internship ».
Destinations to watch
Each State is free to set its "preferred" destinations from a common list set at European level. For France, these are Burma, Bosnia-Herzegovina, China, the West Bank - Gaza Strip, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco and finally Russia. To which must be added (out of the 3 posts financed by France) Ethiopia, Indonesia, Madagascar, the African Union (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia), Ukraine and Vietnam. Each candidate has the possibility of expressing three geographical wishes.
Successful candidates will leave for nine months (from March 2013) with the possibility of proposing a renewal of the agreement for an additional nine months. A scholarship as well as various expenses (housing, living conditions) will make up a monthly envelope which should be around 2,500 / 3,000 euros depending on the location of the internship. Other expatriate allowances to cover travel, installation and insurance costs will also be paid.
Preselection by the French diplomatic service will take place between September and October and the final choice by the SEAE will be known in December 2012.
