Lambrinidis appointed special representative for human rights
(BRUXELLES2) We announced it to our subscribers in preview. It is indeed the Greek Stravros Lambrinidis who has been appointed special representative of the European Union for Human Rights. The High Representative, Catherine Ashton, is due to announce it this afternoon. This post is newly created and responded to a wish of the European Parliament. It is not surprising that this candidate therefore stands out from the lot compared to the other contenders for the positions. A career diplomat, socialist (he is a member of Pasok), Lambrinidis was briefly Minister of Foreign Affairs in Greece.
