The trial of the Ponant pirates begins

The six Somalis suspected of having participated in the piracy of the French sailboat "Le Ponant" in the Indian Ocean will be tried by the Court of Assizes in Paris from Tuesday (22 May). It was time. They have been detained on remand for more than three years. They were, in fact, captured in April 2008 by French forces on Somali soil, at the end of an incredible pursuit, worthy of a James Bond. While they were driving at high speed, aboard a 4x4, a soldier had lodged a bullet in the engine, thus blocking their escape. The suspects are between 25 and 50 years old. And only one admitted, during the investigation, to have participated in the collision.
