Agreement on OpsCenter Horn of Africa

(BRUSSELS2, exclusive) Approved in principle in December, the activation of the Operations Center (OpsCenter) for the Horn of Africa should now be ratified in the coming days by the Council of Ministers of the EU. The "26" (*) agreed on the text of the decision which should be adopted by written procedure (or as an A point of a future Council of Ministers. This center will be responsible for ensuring the coordination of all the operations conducted in the Horn of Africa: at sea with the anti-piracy mission (Eunavfor Atalanta), as well as on land, with the future mission for the reinforcement of maritime capacities (Eucap - at least for its military part - the civilian part will remain "led" by the EU Civilian Commander, CPCC) and the Somali Soldiers Training Mission in Uganda (EUTM Somalia). The OpsCenter will be placed within the EU Military Headquarters and activated for a period of two years.A regular evaluation of its activity will be carried out.

(*) Denmark does not take part in this decision. But Croatia participates in the discussions as an observer.
