An American head of the investigative task force at Eulex Kosovo

(BRUSSELS2) An American prosecutor, John Clint Williamson, who was appointed head of the special Eulex task force responsible for investigating allegations of organ trafficking, links with the KLA and the involvement of Kosovar political power, contained in the Council of Europe report written by the Swiss Dick Marty in December 2010. A preliminary investigation was launched on January 27, 2011.

NB: This appointment is eminently political. The Americans are indeed participating in Eulex Kosovo and had expressed several criticisms of the European mission in the past. But it's rather original. And we can ask ourselves how an American lawyer is more competent than a European lawyer to lead the investigation into facts that took place on European territory, especially since Williamson has a certain experience.

A lawyer by profession – a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans and an assistant attorney at the New Orleans District Court – J. Clint Williamson is also an NSC official. He was a prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague (from 1994 to 2001), notably investigating proceedings against “Arkan”, against the perpetrators of the Vukovar massacre and against Milosevic. He then became director of the justice department of UNMIK, the UN mission in Kosovo (end of 2001-2002). In 2003, he was in Baghdad (Iraq) as first advisor to the Iraqi Minister of Justice. Then he became the director of stability operations at the National Security Council (NSC) (2003-2006). At the end of his period at the NSC, director of security issues and director of relief, stabilization and development at the NSC (1st half of 2006), he held the position of special assistant (acting) to the president (G. Bush ). Ambassador extraordinary for war crimes issues from 2006 to 2009, he was until now an expert with the United Nations.
