An assessment mission to South Sudan. Soon an EU delegation in Juba?

(BRUSSELS2) A fact-finding mission from the European diplomatic service visits South Sudan. It's not the first of its kind. But it will include two teams that will have different objectives.

One is to check what projects could be carried out in the new independent state, alongside the various United Nations bodies. The Europeans could thus take charge of one or more security assistance projects (airport, government communications, etc.).

The other team must prepare the opening of an EU delegation in Juba (premises, security, etc.). The aim is to be able to open this 136th "embassy" of the European Union (the technical office in Benghazi, in Libya, does not have this status) on Independence Day, July 9, by the High Representative of the EU.
