The EU ambassador to the UN in Geneva should be an Italian

(BRUSSELS2) The new ambassador of the European Union to the UN should be an Italian diplomat, Mariangela Zappia, according to concordant information collected by 'B2'. Me Zappia has spent part of his career in charge of multilateral issues.

She works, until today, at the Italian permanent representation in Geneva, in charge of relations with international organizations in charge of social or humanitarian issues (ILO (Labour), OIM (Migrations), OCHA, UNHCR, ICRC, FICROSS, UNICEF, etc.). She was elevated to the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary in March 2010, after serving as First Councillor.

Previously, she was posted in Rome, as head of the "Middle East, Mediterranean, Balkans and Central Asia" Department, at the General Directorate for Development Cooperation, but also as spokesperson and head of the office for relations with the media.
