European and Western embassies in Libya close one after another (upd1)

In a concerted way, several European capitals announced, one after another, the activities of their embassies in Tripoli. Suiting the action to the word, the British closed their embassy. They entrusted the defense of their interests to Turkey. France has just announced an identical decision, as announced on Saturday evening (February 26) in a press release from the Quai d'Orsay published on its site. The Czech Republic and Slovakia have done the same. Americans, Canadians and Australians had already announced in the previous hours the activity of their embassy. Others may follow. Belgium will make its decision on Sunday, according to information received by 'B2'. (see update)

Repatriation of diplomatic personnel

Diplomatic personnel from the closing missions have also been repatriated: the British in a special Royal Air Force flight, the French and Slovaks in an Air Force Airbus A340 which repatriated 122 people in all (28 French and 94 foreigners), Canadians and Australians in a Canadian Forces C-17, etc.

Program penalties. And if that's not enough?

In question, the deterioration of the situation on the spot. Which is not a very good sign. It looks like a general save who can. Before the possible application of sanctions and the closure of the Libyan space, it is indeed necessary to evacuate a maximum of people. The hypothesis of a stronger intervention - which was suspended on the evacuation of most European and Western nationals - is now possible.

Other countries may follow (Maj Sunday February 27)

The Belgian Minister for Foreign Affairs confirmed on RTBF the information given here; the diplomatic staff returns on Monday. Bulgaria could do the same. According to our information, 18 EU countries which have diplomatic representation in Tripoli (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Spain, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Romania), 5 of them have therefore already closed their embassies. I'Spain could follow.
