The EU mission in Iraq would be extended for two years

EulexIraq.jpg(BRUSSELS2) The Council of Foreign Ministers in May could extend the European "Rule of Law" mission in Iraq (EUJUST Lex) for two years. In this extension would be included the continuation of training actions already undertaken for senior police or justice officials, but continuing a change initiated in recent months. The objective would be to have more training in the country itself and no longer "off shore" (in Europe or in other countries such as Jordan), as at present. This will allow both to increase the number of formations and to refine them. It is also a question of extending the presence of EUJUST Lex. Already permanently present in Baghdad, the PeSDC mission intends to open two additional sites: in Erbil in the north (Kurdistan) and Basra in the south.
