Two pirates will be tried in Spain, Spanish jurisdiction reaffirmed

(B2) Finally, after some procrastination and conflict of jurisdiction, there will be two pirates tried in Spain for the removal of the Basque tuna alakrana October 2 off the Somali coast. The doubt about the age of one of the pirates is lifted. Cabdiwelli Cabullahi, aka Abdu Willi is between 19,7 and 20,5 years old, according to a collarbone test requested by the Criminal Division of theNational Court last Thursday, announced the Spanish press (read El Pais). It will therefore be the central investigating judge, Santiago Pedraz, which will be competent, and not the juvenile court, decided the Court in its judgment returned Monday morning. But the Court also removed a doubt, which weighed on the procedure:
crimes having been committed on a vessel flying the Spanish flag and onmouseout="_tipoff()">the Convention on the Law of the Sea making piracy a universal crime the prosecution of which is a matter of law in any State, the Spanish courts have full jurisdiction.
