In eastern Chad, the harvest is good, a success for Eufor?

(BRUSSELS2) Good news from Chad. Farmers in eastern Chad, in the area of action of the Center Battalion (French and Slovenian) around Farchana have experienced a bumper harvest EUFOR, the EU military mission in Chad and CAR has just announced .

The first factor in this success is climatic: the rains were abundant. "Eastern Chad may seem almost desert to a Westerner," the statement said. "But here, the vast majority of ethnic groups have learned to domesticate this arid climate and live from agriculture."

Second factor: the breeders respected, more than usual, the transhumance corridors reserved for them. The cooperation between Eufor and the Chadian gendarmes played a role. "This helped ease the tensions that arise every year between farmers and nomads," according to EUFOR.

Third factor: the daily patrols of European soldiers. The improvement in the security situation of many cultivable areas, located near the Sudanese border, has made it possible to cultivate them again. And some of the displaced people have decided to keep the crops there - instead of returning to the camps for the displaced. Many of them stayed in the villages, gradually bringing life back to these border regions, underlines Eufor based on a census carried out by the UNHCR (High Commissioner for Refugees).
